About the Climbers

The 16 members of the Kilimanjaro summit team were, for the most part, complete strangers before meeting one another just one day before their adventure began. Despite that fact, within hours of meeting one another, they made a stunning decision that, statistically, all but doomed their chance of success. In reality, it was a decision that created a lifelong bond and the opportunity for an even greater success.

Doug Ulman, Austin, Texas

Doug is a three-time cancer survivor, Doug helped transform LIVESTRONG into an internationally known brand and leader in the global movement for people affected by cancer, earning a reputation as the “Most Savvy Health Care Leader in Social Media.” He is now the CEO of Pelotonia, a cancer fundraising organization.
Wendy Chioji, Park City, Utah

Wendy is a two-time cancer survivor and former television news anchor who retired to live each day with passion. An adventure racer and KONA World Championship Ironman Triathlete, Wendy is a mountain guide in Park City, a freelance TV reporter and a passionate advocate and fundraiser for LIVESTRONG. Bree and Stephen Sandlin, Katy, Texas

Bree is a marketing executive for Shell Oil. A mother of two and a breast cancer survivor, Bree celebrated her one year “cancerversary” on Mt. Kilimanjaro with her husband Stephen who she calls “the most sacrificing person I have ever met.” Bree’s Blog.
Jeremy & Claire Jungling, Flowood, Miss.

Jeremy is a Business Manager for US Environmental. An avid ultra-marathoner and running coach, Jeremy was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2012. Claire works for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi and is also an avid runner and coach. Jeremy calls Claire his angel.
Dr. Matt King, Chestertown, MD

A family practice physician, Dr. King is a co-founder of Survivor Summit along with his brothers Mike, Paul and Brian and lifelong friend, Chris Callahan. Matt’s father, Paul, is a prostate cancer survivor.
Chris Callahan, Bettendorf, IA

Chris is a Manager with Enterprise Holdings and one of the co-Founders of Survivor Summit. “One our goals is to challenge survivors to still live life to the fullest and erase the cancer stigma.”
Chris Warner, Columbia, MD

Chris is the CEO of Earth Treks, Inc. He’s led nearly 200 international expeditions and is one of only nine Americans to summit both Everest and K2. He is the author of “High Altitude Leadership,” and has coached Fortune 100 executives, Super Bowl champions, U.S, government covert ops teams and Wharton MBA students. chrisbwarner.com.
Nelson Laur, Sykesville, MD

Nelson is an Earth Treks guide and business owner who operates a small home remodeling company. He’s been guiding since1999 in Russia, Tibet, Nepal, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, and all over the U.S.. He joins Warner annually on leadership adventures for the Wharton School of Business and for Survivor Summit.
Robert L. Masson, M.D., Orlando, Florida and Park City, Utah

Robert is an internationally recognized neurosurgeon specializing in spinal injury and sports spine medicine. The founder of the NeuroSpine Institute, his patients include amateur, recreational, and professional athletes, representing players from the NFL, NBA, MLB, PGA/LPGA tours, U.S. Ski team, U.S. Cycling and Wake Boarding teams.
Bob Chandler, Burlington, NC and Maddie Chandler, Austin, Texas

Maddie is Partnered Events Coordinator at the LIVESTRONG Foundation. Bob Chandler is Maddie’s father and Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Chandler Concrete Co. Inc.. Maddie says, “We all became immediate lifelong friends who will continue to fight on behalf of those that can’t – there is much to be done and our fight didn’t stop on the mountain.”
Cindy Trent, Palatine, IL

Cindy is a high school mathematics teacher whose family has lost seven family members to cancer. She has fundraised and supported LIVESTRONG for the past eight years and in 2013, became a LIVESTRONG Leader.
Rob Sergent, Park City, UT

Rob is a husband, father, mountain climber and dragon slayer. He’s also a Vice President of Development for Johnson & Johnson.“I was honored to represent many fine J&J coworkers in addition to multiple family members and friends on this important climb.”
Marc Middleton, Orlando, Florida

Marc is the Founder and CEO of Bolder Broadcasting, co-host of the national Growing Bolder TV and Radio shows, Executive Producer of Surviving & Thriving, a regular blogger for The Huffington Post, author of Rock Stars of Aging: 50 Ways to Live to 100, and world-record holding masters swimmer.
